Help Save the Unique Tombstone of Legionnaire Isidor Hirsch

On the occasion of our 25th anniversary, we are launching an important conservation initiative. The project aims to preserve the historic gravestone of Icchak Isidor Hirsch, located in the Jewish cemetery in Oświęcim.

Hirsch, born in 1897, was a native of Oświęcim who served in the Polish Legions — the legendary formation that helped Poland regain independence in 1918. His gravestone is marked by two rare symbols reflecting his Polish-Jewish identity: the Polish national emblem with a crowned eagle and the Star of David. Today, the stone is in very poor condition, and without urgent action this unique testimony to Polish and Jewish history may be lost.

The project will include professional conservation and renovation, partial reconstruction of missing elements, construction of a stable pedestal, and installation of an informational plaque.

The total cost of the work is 45,000 PLN. Every contribution, no matter how small, will help preserve this exceptional monument for future generations.
